Here Come the Vikings!
14th Oct 2025
Today P6 had a very exciting visit from The Active Learning Company. The children were transported back in time to the age of the Vikings. The children were able to visit a number of stations and activities and were able to build upon their learning in class and learn new and interesting facts too. Having an 'active' and 'hands-on' approach really engaged the children and it was a great way to learn more about the Vikings.
The children were able to dress up in various Viking costumes. Then they were able to try and make fire by using flint and steel, some children were able to make a few sparks with the flint. There was also the opportunity to grind wheat into flour, using the quern stone.
The children also were able to create their own bracelets using a lucet. The children were fabulous at this and all were able to create a lovely keepsake of their day.
Following on from our learning about Viking homes the children were able to experience what it felt like to make a wall, ready for wattle and daub. They found out how much hard work it took and the team work that was needed.
Another station saw the children getting to hold a shield, axe, spear and sword, as they learned more about Viking weapons and armour, before taking part in a chain mail relay and making their own spears.
There was also the opportunity to translate Viking runes and investigate a number of different Viking artefacts.
The day ended with the children learning about Viking warfare and a sword drill competition. The winning warrior was presented with a lovely prize of a black and white bracelet.
The children would recommend this day to anyone interested in learning more about the Vikings.
